Our First Tour: Austin
During the workshop rehearsals for Portmanteau we talked a lot about what individuals pack for a trip. What becomes important when you have to collect your things. In my case I know I am returning in a little over a week, so that goes into effect too. I baked cookies, packed reading material, made music mixes for the two day drive, and as always alcohol for the trip. My suitcase is only half full so I can refill for the trip back and bring more goodies and surprises for the return journey.
AUSTIN: Breakfast tacos. Spiderhouse. Ruby’s BBQ. Toy Joy.
Our venue. The VORTEX is honestly an amazing space. If anyone visits Austin, I do recommend at least coming to this space. They have a cool approx. 100 seat theatre + a bar (that’s where we are performing the show) + a gigantic yard which spans the size of the building itself. It is impressive. Our shows were a great success. Packing the bar where we performed!
On our return journey we received news that we were asked to do an impromptu performance at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Such an exciting experience, and the photo is of all the mechanicians packing into their elevator with all our stuff. After ATL we had dinner at a Chinese Restaurant, celebrated Jess’ biirthday on the road with an amazing cake from Root-A-Bakers in Kentucky. The sales woman was awesome. and we got free sugar cookies because it was our first visit.
