INTRODUCTION TO IMMERSIVE WORK

Immersive theater requires a different set of skills than more traditional plays. Suitable for actors, directors, designers, stage/production managers, and playwrights, this workshop introduces participants to the key principles of immersive work, including navigating the performer-audience relationship and creating a fully realized world in an immersive setting.

WORLDBUILDING 101

How do you make something from nothing? This workshop teaches participants how to use performance, sound, design, and writing to build a fictional world from an idea, a piece of text, a historical character, or anything else that inspires them.

THE THREE C’S: COLLAGE, COLLABORATION AND CREATIVE RESEARCH

An introduction to Applied Mechanics’ research-driven devising method. Starting out with just an idea, participants learn how to build a portfolio of research materials and how to use that research to collaboratively generate new pieces of theater.

RADICAL WORLD BUILDING

How do we make art in this tumultuous political moment? This workshop empowers participants to create imaginative, evocative performance pieces that reflect their values, without descending into mere messaging or simple slogans. Learn how to transform your critical analysis into artistically potent action.

THOUGHTFUL COLLABORATION

Have you been in some creative rooms that felt some degree of unpleasant, unhealthy, or downright frustrating? Well, welcome! This workshop guides participants to articulate their dream process and lays out a toolkit for how to achieve it, moving forward from challenging experiences to create an equitable space where every individual is free to bring their full energies to a project.
